About Us
The House in the Hillside is a traditional Portuguese cottage set in the mountains. The cottage sleeps up to 6 guests and is immersed by nature and flowing rivers.
The house is sympathetically renovated with beautiful but simple, traditional interiors.
Set on the border of Aljentejo and the Algarve, the house is 20 minutes from Messines and less than 40 minutes from Portugal’s stunning beaches and Faro airport. The local village Alzheira embodies the slow way of living, stroll there from the cottage and visit the local cafe, shop or go for a hike through the beautiful mountains.
If being in nature is your thing then the cottage is for you there are trails straight out the doorstep. We can happily suggest wild swimming spots and the best local hikes. Across the road is a beautiful river you can dip into on those hot Portuguese days!
Alentejo is known for its leisurely pace of life and traditional Portugal. After a long hike and a dip in the river, return to the House in the Hills to relax on the beautiful terrace, share dinner with friends and watch the beautiful sunsets.

Guest Info
The cottage sleeps 6 guests in 3 bedrooms (including the studio) and the living room. We provide essentials to get you started such as; tea, coffee, sugar, olive oil, vinegar and salt/pepper. Kitchen has a gas cooker, fridge (freezer compartment) and a well stocked selection of cookware.
Bedroom one: double bed with large wardrobe, views and high ceilings
Bedroom two: one single bed with large wardrobe, views and high ceilings
Bedroom three: the large studio, log burning stove, one single bed and one pull out bed (please let us know if you need this made up) with direct access to outside
Additional single bed in the living room area + Travel cot available on request (please let us know if you need this made up)

Booking

Nightly rates are £150 in high season (April - October) with a minimum of 3 days.
£100 in low season (November - March) with a minimum of 3 days We also charge a £70 cleaning fee per stay.
Cancelations
If a stay is canceled 7 days or less after booking a full refund will be given, minus a £50.00 administrative fee.
If a stay is canceled more than 8 weeks prior to it’s commencement, a refund of 50% of the full booking cost will be given.
If a stay is canceled 8 or less weeks prior to its commencement date the entire booking costs will be retained and non refundable.
If the Guest wishes to cancel they must notify us by email.
If a Guest wishes to reschedule we shall do our best to accommodate their stay and this will be subject to a £30 rebooking administration fee.
